Access control is the most basic and important form of security when it comes to your property. Gate access control exists in a broad world of companies and devices, with a large variety of apparatuses possible. While there are a variety of ways to control access to any location, the fundamental basics remain the same. The most important element of all are gates themselves.
Whether you’re looking at protecting a commercial or private property, you’ll want to choose the right gate access control system. The size, structure, and security level of your gates will be determined by the environment and the property itself. Gates can be found in a number of shapes and sizes, built for pedestrian or vehicle traffic, but no matter what style or application specified, they must be controlled by an effective mechanism. This can come in the form of manual or electronic control, and will reflect the amount of convenience and security needed for a given application.
Access can be controlled by standard swing or sliding gates or, more commonly, lift gates. Control occurs via a number of methods that differ in important ways, both locally and remotely.
The most direct type of access control utilizes a button, keypad, card, or other form of electronic entry that is physically attached to the gate mechanism. Anyone trying to enter must interact with this device to be granted access. Remote entry is another popular option. This uses a device either on a person or in their vehicle to recognize and allow entry, so that only those with the proper credentials can have access. Automatic entry is the most convenient option, in which pressure sensors or motion detectors recognize a person or vehicle and allow entry at a controlled pace. This last variant is useful where convenience takes priority over security.
It’s important to keep in mind the fact that an access control system that is easy to use will be the best one, because it’s more likely to actually be used.
