What are the different types of automatic gates?
The three main types of automatic gates are slide gates, swing gates and barrier gates.
Slide gates, as the name implies, often slide open or closed on a set of wheels. Since the entire gate “slides” out of the way allowing access, installation will require enough space to the left or the right of the driveway equal to the size of the gate itself.
Swing gates open in the similar fashion as your bedroom or bathroom door might open: it swings inward or outward. Enough space is required either in front or behind the gate so that it may swing open without hitting a vehicle or other object. Swing gates can be single or double swing gates; double swing gates might remind you of a set of french doors.
Barrier gates are used mostly for traffic control and are most commonly used at tolls and parking garages. Often a barrier gate arm crosses the entrance path preventing access. Upon being granted access, the arm lifts up permitting the vehicle to pass.
